Music Scholarships

The Wauwatosa School of Music Scholarship Program is funded by individuals in the community who have learned to play a musical instrument and want to make the opportunity available to children who otherwise may not be able to afford lessons on their own.  Learning how to play a musical instrument brings a sense of accomplishment and joy that should be available to all.

Purposes

·         To encourage music study by dedicated grade school and middle school students.

·         To support continuous progress on a musical instrument through private study.

·         To provide financial assistance to dedicated students who otherwise may not be able to afford private music study.

Guidelines

Eligibility
Students in grades 2 - 8 during the 2024 - 2025 school year are eligible.  No prior musical experience is required.

Funding
Scholarships are available for up to $500 per school semester (6 months).  Funds are paid directly to the music school.  Students are responsible for any remaining lesson fees not covered by the scholarship.  A student may reapply for additional funding for subsequent semesters.

*Funding may also be available for instrument rental.

Selection Criteria
Selection of scholarship recipients is primarily based on the student’s interest and financial need (see guidelines below). Applications will be reviewed by an advisory committee, who will also meet with the student and parents to further assess their interest and willingness to commit to the study of music.

Attendance Policy
To maintain eligibility and scholarship payments, students must attend all scheduled lessons unless cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance. Funds will not be provided for missed lessons when proper notice is not given.
